the flavour of india is visible in its narrow streets, in the sidelines of gray trajectories carving their way on the roads, mixed and mangled with dead marigold, a rush of people, of all colors, identities,as hands from no where touch you, nudge you, aware of your existence, dependent, expectant...
in the fervor that is building up right now, if u still feel you aren't quite through you take the challenge of jumping into the mayhem that we call a festival...
as i walked on the streets of mumbai, called " masjid bandar road", wherein thronged millions of people, droned in crisp white kurtas, caps on their heads, ladies covered in full black, charming only with their kohled eyes, barbecued roosters hanging from shops in a barbaric crude form, people being lured from the sweet smell of fried malpua's, gulab jamuns, a contant chant of "chachaa, yeh lana...chachha...murg tandoori!!"
on a passage ever reducing its length because of the increasing population, before you realize you are pushed into a dingy shop, and before the blink of an eye...comes greasy bheja fry, gurda, and all that you can possibly fry!!!
certainly nothing green about this event, but worth an experience

At the 33rd Kalibari Anniversary, a musical concert by Bhoomi, a bangla band broke all genre & generation barriers. There spontaneous melodies & rustic renditions were a instant hit with a wide cross-section of audience. It is always a special occasion for me to visit Kalibari, as it refreshes all the beautiful memories of my growing up years. I remember, as a child, Durga Puja at Kalibari seemed larger than life event. Cultural events have always been my favourite. I think being away from the Bangla-Land, this forms a direct connect to hearts & souls of all the non-resident bengalis like me. Bhoomi represents a new generation of regional musical expressionists; they blend different styles of Folk music like baul, bhatiyali , moishaal, with Rock, reggae & rap. It also uses wide range of natural sounds like Bird Chirping with classical & western instruments for sound effects. Art is a reflection of society and changing times. By change I mean desired change. The approach of renovation & fusion could very well be applied to other spheres of our lifestyles and social fabric. In today's context this becomes very relevant as it solves twofold problems of disappearing cultures & retarded regional evolution. Today, we are regional communities living in global societies. While there is a constant political debate over which is important, the core issue of getting to a next level of evolution gets subsided. Renovation & fusion is, if no the best but definitely an alternative approach to bridge this gap. Once this is incorporated in our lifestyles, many things will change and hopefully one day we will become a much sensitive and sustainable society. As a designer I was inspired and as a part of audience I was mesmerized. Renew & recycle !
P.S. For a Better Day. is the first Bhoomi number not is Bengali, which was performed in NY on special request of UN in July 2006

Three of us - J , me & a cup of frappe !
While scribbling for a design competition that required us to create a graphic artwork that will make the festive time of Christmas meaningful by considering what humans could do for planet's survival, a spark ignited . Well Christmas (?! ), the iconic Santa's reindeers. Green (?!) , a tree sprouting from the womb of mother earth.
Stir for 3 minutes. Stir again. Once more.....* GreenDear * !
Beginning always remains the most notable moment. GreenDear is a beginning. The beginning of an imagination. A thought, an idea, and a journey. The colour Green is associated with : growth, hope, youth, health etc. Green signal from a girl or a boy could mean go ahead in a relationship. Last but not the least green symbolizes Nature. Fertility & regeneration. And, Dear' is a loved one.
Today, after lot of procrastination & lethargy, we posted the entry for the same competition. I will upload the images very soon (as soon as we win the competition!). I wish the idea of GreenDear acts as chlorophyll & photosynthesize into some positive change for everyone.
Oh ! Is this also the beginning of this blog ? First Post.
